Instruments ain’t cheap, uniforms need to be purchased, and travel comes with an unavoidable price tag. That’s why efficient fundraising is critical to the success of any high school band. Please help spread this story and shut down this immoral and manipulative company. Let me reiterate that the parents DO NOT KNOW that 30% of their money never makes it to the team and the students would not have known either if I didn't confront my coach in front of the team. We made $1000 so far which means there is more than $300 that goes straight to the company and never sees the team's well needed and deserved funds. The family members of the track team are currently donating. Not to mention, he is a PHILOSOPHY teacher. It seems that he only believes in the things that he teaches when it is convenient for him and he is letting a quick "cash grab" get in the way of morality. I spoke up in front of the entire track team and he was completely dismissive of my argument. The worst part is that coaches universally talk about the importance of hard work and "no shortcuts." This company is a literal shortcut to honest fundraising. When pitching it to the students, the representative continuously used phrases such as "this will only take a moment," "this is an easy way to make money," and "all you have to do is." Simply stated, this company is manipulating students using pressure, conformity and not to mention incentives to give away private information. This is a company that takes advantage of peoples kindness and generosity to make a profit there is nothing more fucked up than that. The premise is that each student gives the company 20 email addresses to which they send requests for donations.ĭuring the presentation, my coach and the company representative intentionally left out that the company takes 30% of every donation and looking through the interface for donors, NOWHERE does it say that 30% of their money does not make it to the person they're donating for. I am a senior track student and this year, my coach introduced a new fundraiser called SnapRaise ( ). I am a high school student at Spruce Creek High School and I do not have a big voice, I ask that you please take a look at my situation and spread this story so other people aren't taken advantage of.
